FRED IS COMING! FRED IS COMING! FRED IS COMING! And due to popular demand, he has opened up 2 more classes on Thursday, April 12th, but seats are being filled fast. You now have more opportunities to join in on the fun.

If you have never heard of him, where have you been? I've taken 2 of his classes and would take the same ones again and again. What a great teacher! And fun? You just cannot imagine until you come to one (or more as many have already requested) of his classes.

Look below for the schedule. In the e-mailed registration notice, also include your desire to be on a waiting list and/or an audit only list. This class must be pre-paid by check or PayPal within 2 weeks of your registration. So, also include if you wish to pay with PayPal and I will send you a request for money.

His classes are limited in size to 12 students so you must hurry with your decision.

CLASS INFORMATION:

For the next 3 months classes will normally be 2 weeks apart to allow for rescheduling due to bad weather. Hope this works for everyone. There is an exception January 9th and 16th, and again while we are at the Winter CHA Show. When we return from the CHA show, we should have lots of new ideas to teach, possibly beginning as soon as March. SO this class schedule will remain relatively open until we return with our new ideas.

All classes are held in the shop. Most of the classes are $12 unless special circumstances arise. The cost should be reported in the class description area of this page if it is different than $12.00.

Evite, a free Internet invitation program, is used to send out reminders about 1 week in advance. Evite will automatically send a reminder 2 days prior to the class. I only ask that you respond to this system to say whether you will be coming or not.

I prefer that you bring nothing to class unless specifically requested to bring something.

Regarding the class seating, please sign up for full classes, too, since there are often cancellations. Many times even if there are no cancellations, another session will be opened to handle the overflow.

Many of you have asked how to use these powders. This will be a class full of TEN (10) different techniques. If you like technique-filled classes, this is one for you.

Metal Works and More
10:00 a.m. - Noon ( 5 SEATS)                         To Register

Many of the techniques taught in this class were taught in previous metal classes, but you will not be buying special equipment as you have done before. In addition we will use lighter metal to do a few new techniques. The samples shown are similar to some of the techniques we will learn. You will take home several examples of techniques to use with metal. Another jam-packed class for the new year!

Bloomin' Flowers with Carol Heath
10:00 a.m. - Noon ( NEW)                         To Register

At the Winter CHA show one of the biggest trends for this year is still the use of big flowers in card-making. The sample shown is own that was shared with me from Heartfelt Creations. Carol Heath will teach us how to make a similar card and another card using an even larger flower. What fun to initiate spring with some bloomin' flowers!

"The Elegant Mess" with Fred B. Mullett

9:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. (4 Seats)                                                  To Register

A veritable food fight of a class! Where the spontaneous meets the specific. Where the positive meets the negative. And where leftovers go to play. We will fiddle around with principles of figure/ground relationship as we integrate sprayed color washes and splattered paint, collage, stencils, and stamps on Oriental and watercolor paper with remarkable results. Suitable for small or large format work, this visual play time will add miles to artistic efforts! $65.00 per student, includes handouts and a large supply of instructor-provided supplies. Students will be responsible for a minimal list of specific required materials. Max - 12 students.

The Rest of the Mess with Fred B. Mullett

2:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m. (6 Seats)                                                    To Register

Picking up on ideas of positive and negative space, we will use masks and stencils to activate one area of our work by negating another...and vice versa.  We'll accentuate our choices with line and color and instill in each a great sense of whimsy...and maybe a little bling for good measure.  Students will become more familiar with mixing individualized colors of printing ink, they'll work with several different kinds of paper, have available a wide range of images, and then mount their favored efforts onto A-2 size notecards.  Runs 4 hours. $65.00 per student, includes handouts and a large supply of instructor-provided supplies. Students will be responsible for a list of specific required materials. Max - 12
students.

"Fred B. and his Dancing Rubber Fish", Advanced Embossing Techniques

9:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. (FULL)                                      To Register

(An elaboration of the article, "Painting With Plastic; Multicolor Embossing with Fred B. Mullett", Somerset Studio.) Expanding the methods of multi-color printing with multi-color embossing and watercolor additions, this class is geared toward the experienced student, though could be considered a "sink or swim" lesson for beginners. (There will also be a short demonstration on how to make colored transparent powders using alcohol inks.) $65.00 per student, includes handouts and instructor-provided supplies. Max - 12 students.

Spritz Me, Baby...Mo' Bettah!", Diffused Watercolor Effects with Fred B. Mullett

2:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m. (1 seat)                                                 To Register

Finding merit in the "less is more" concept and the power of imprecision, this class focuses on the soluble properties of markers and other water-based media to achieve watercolor effects using rubber stamps. Bleaching out imagery on black paper, then re-introducing color with high contrast accents is also tackled to achieve startling effects. $65.00 per student, includes handouts and a large supply of instructor-provided supplies. Raincoats are optional. (Just kidding!) Students will be responsible for a minimal list of specific required materials. Max - 12 students.

Chlorine bleach is used in this class. Due to the caustic nature of this chemical, students are STRONGLY warned of the hazards! Suggested safety materials may include - but are not limited to - latex gloves, a work apron, and eye protection. Remember to take care, and to look out for those around you and their property, and the property of the sponsoring institution for this class.

Unnamed Class presenting Gelli Arts Gel Printing Plate with Lorraine Revalee
10:00 a.m. - Noon ( NEW)                         To Register

This is one of the products selected by the editor of Cloth-Paper-Scissors Magazine as one her 10 favorite new products. You will be able to use the plate to make 2 cards. The samples shown are not what will be created in class. When they are prepared, I will replace these with the actual ones to be made. I shouldn't use the word actual because each one will look different just because of the attributes of the plate.

    Textured Collage with Carol Schroeder
10:00 a.m. - Noon (4 seats)

Carol Schroeder will bring her many artistic talents to share with us. In this class she will again use texture in creating a collaged card using many found things. She will teach us the basics of collage while creating textured results. These will be small enough to use on cards. We’ll be using gesso, Perfect Paper Adhesive, Twinks, PearlEx Palette Paints, and possibly Mica Powders like PearlEx or Polished Pigments. This summer start collecting some nature – like feathers, butterfly wings, and dragonfly wings. We will need them in this class.

There are more samples in the shop so please come check them out. Again this might work for a Household Products class.
